About the JMI and AMU Class 9 entrance
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Aligarh both run senior secondary schools that admit students to Class 9 through an entrance test. Seats are limited and competition is high, so a good Class 8 score is not enough on its own; students need to practise objective questions against the clock.
Both tests are based on the CBSE / NCERT Class 8 syllabus and use multiple-choice questions with no negative marking. The main differences are that JMI gives equal weight to English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science, while AMU tests three languages (English, Urdu and Hindi), gives more weight to Mathematics and Science, and adds an interview.
The facts on this page come from the official Jamia Schools Prospectus 2026–27 and the AMU Guide to Admission (Schools) 2026–27. The 2027–28 documents have not been released yet; we will update this page as soon as they are.
