Overview

About PGDCA

The Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) is a one-year, two-semester programme of JMI's Department of Computer Science. It is meant for graduates who want practical computing skills: programming, operating systems, databases, networking and web technologies.

JMI's current PGDCA curriculum includes Computer Fundamentals, Programming with C, Applied Operating Systems, Website Design and Maintenance, Foundations of e-Business, Programming with Python, Network and Internet Technologies and Database Management Systems, supported by practical laboratories and a minor project.

Because the programme is short and application-oriented, it suits graduates from non-computer backgrounds who want a recognised university qualification in computing, as well as students who plan to move on to MCA or IT roles later.

Other routes and next steps

Other universities

Several universities run PGDCA or similar computer-application diplomas, some through their own tests and some through CUET (PG). Check each university's notification for the paper and eligibility it uses.

Moving on to MCA

The same Mathematics, reasoning and computer base is useful later for MCA entrances, including JMI's MCA test.

Admission

How admission works

JMI's 2026–27 prospectus states that admission to its programmes is made on merit determined by an entrance test conducted by JMI, followed wherever applicable by an interview and/or other components. For PGDCA this means preparing for a written test across the four areas above.

In objective (MCQ) parts of JMI entrance tests, 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer (2026–27 prospectus). Accuracy matters as much as speed, so our mock tests are marked the same way.

  1. Read the PGDCA (G01) eligibility in Annexure-I of the 2027–28 prospectus
  2. Apply on admission.jmi.ac.in within the application window
  3. Download the admit card and note the test centre
  4. Sit the JMI entrance test
  5. Track the merit list and complete admission formalities
