Master of Design (M.Des.) Entrance Coaching
Preparation for the JMI Master of Design entrance and other university M.Des. admissions, combining design aptitude, sketching, design thinking, portfolio work and interview practice.
About Master of Design (M.Des.)
Jamia Millia Islamia offers the Master of Design (M.Des.), including a self-financed version, through its Department of Design and Innovation. It is a regular postgraduate programme of four semesters, and recent JMI admission documents have used programme code M83. Confirm the code, eligibility, seats and dates in the 2027–28 prospectus.
The department focuses on multidisciplinary design, innovation, sustainability and human-centred approaches. Its advanced areas include UX design, product design, industrial design, communication design and service design.
Design admissions test more than subject knowledge. Candidates are judged on how they observe, visualise, reason and communicate an idea, so preparation has to mix regular drawing practice, creative exercises and timed aptitude questions with a portfolio that shows how you think.
Who can apply
Take the 2027–28 eligibility conditions for JMI M.Des. from the new prospectus; do not rely on older criteria. Other universities set their own qualifying degrees and may ask for a portfolio or interview.

CUET PG
Some participating universities may map design programmes to CUET PG. Check each university's programme mapping, required paper, and any portfolio or interview requirement in the CUET PG 2027 bulletin.
Building your portfolio and interview answers
A portfolio should show how you think as a designer, not just a set of attractive drawings. Include research, process sheets, experiments and the final outcome, with a short reflection on each project. Sketches, illustration, photography, posters, typography, product or UX concepts and craft work can all belong if they show a clear process.
If an interview or portfolio discussion is part of the process, expect questions such as why you want to study design, what good design is, which problem you would like to solve, and to explain one project in detail. Prepare genuine answers rather than memorised ones.
