Latest update: JMI admission 2027–28
As of 2 October 2026, Jamia Millia Islamia has not released its prospectus or application schedule for 2027–28. The most recent official prospectus is for the 2026–27 session.
In that cycle, JMI launched its prospectus and opened online applications on 20 February 2026. Applications for programmes with JMI-conducted entrance tests closed on 25 March 2026, and the university’s entrance tests began from 26 April 2026. JMI also added 30 new programmes that year, kept fees unchanged, and introduced multiple-entry admissions for its four-year undergraduate programmes.
Use these dates only to understand the usual timeline. They are not confirmed dates for 2027. We will update this guide when JMI publishes the 2027–28 notification.
JMI entrance vs CUET: know your admission route
Admission to JMI does not run through a single exam. Each programme has its own route, and the list can change from one session to the next. In 2026–27, the routes were:
| Route | Used for (2026–27) |
|---|---|
| JMI’s own entrance test | Many school, undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and teacher-education programmes |
| CUET | A specified list of programmes published in JMI’s admission notice |
| JEE Main | B.Tech and B.Arch |
| NEET | Specified health and life-science programmes |
| NATA | Architecture |
| NCET | Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) |
So do not assume that every JMI course is through CUET, or that every course has a separate JMI test. When the 2027–28 notice is out, check the route for your programme before you choose CUET subjects or settle on a preparation plan.
What the JMI entrance tests assess
The exact syllabus depends on the programme, but most papers draw on a combination of these areas:
Because several areas are tested together, an early start lets you move steadily from concepts to topic-wise practice, previous-year questions, sectional tests, full mock tests and final revision.
Preparation by level and course
School entrance (Class 6, 9 and 11)
JMI conducts entrance tests for admission to its schools at Class 6, Class 9 and Class 11. Class 11 applicants prepare for their chosen stream: Science, Commerce or Arts/Humanities. Focus on the core concepts from your previous classes, then practise entrance-style questions.

8-step strategy for JMI Entrance 2027
- Fix your exact programmeYour target course decides the syllabus and the admission route. Avoid generic preparation; choose BA LL.B, BBA, B.Sc Computer Science, MA Political Science or whichever programme you want first.
- Study the latest available patternStart with the most recent official syllabus. When the 2027–28 prospectus is released, compare it immediately and adjust your plan.
- Concepts before MCQsFollow the sequence concept → examples → topic-wise questions → MCQs → previous-year questions → mock tests. Hundreds of questions without understanding do not help.
- Practise English every dayGrammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, error detection and sentence correction. Even 30–45 minutes a day adds up over a long preparation cycle.
- Make current affairs a daily habitCover national and international affairs, government schemes, economy, science and technology, environment, sports, awards, appointments, books and authors, and important reports and indices.
- Strengthen reasoning and aptitudePractise analogy, coding-decoding, series, blood relations, directions, ranking, syllogism, seating arrangement, clocks and calendars, percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, time and work, speed and distance, interest and data interpretation.
- Solve previous-year questionsThey show the question style, difficulty level, frequently tested concepts and time pressure. Use them to support syllabus preparation, not replace it.
- Take timed mock tests and review themOnce most of the syllabus is done, attempt full-length tests. After each test, review incorrect, unattempted and slow questions, note weak topics and track repeated mistakes. A mock test is for improving the next attempt, not just for the score.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting for the application form before starting preparation.
- Choosing CUET subjects without checking whether your programme uses CUET.
- Relying only on previous-year papers instead of covering the full syllabus.
- Leaving current affairs and mathematics to the last month.
- Taking mock tests without reviewing the mistakes afterwards.
- Trusting unofficial dates; always confirm on JMI’s admission portal.
