About B.A. (Hons) Urdu
B.A. (Hons) Urdu covers Urdu language and grammar, poetry and prose, the history of Urdu literature, literary criticism, and forms such as the ghazal, nazm, short story, novel and drama, from classical to modern literature.
JMI offers the programme through its Department of Urdu. Under the 2026–27 structure, B35 admission is based on CUET (UG) scores in the Urdu paper (113), while AMU admits through its own B.A. (Hons) test. The two routes need different preparation, so build a common Urdu foundation and then add route-specific modules.

Who can apply
Senior Secondary School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with not less than 45% marks in aggregate or 50% marks in the subject concerned, subject to the complete university rules (JMI 2026–27). Verify the 2027–28 conditions when the new prospectus is released.

AMU and CUET (UG)
AMU B.A. (Hons) Urdu
AMU lists B.A. (Hons) Urdu under code URBAA as an 8-semester programme admitted through its own test: English 25, Indo-Islamic Culture and Aligarh Movement 25, and General Aptitude 50. Urdu literature alone is not enough for this test.
CUET (UG) at other universities
NTA lists Urdu (113) as a CUET (UG) language paper. Other universities may require a different combination of language, domain subjects or the General Aptitude Test, so check each university's rules before choosing papers.
