About B.F.A. Applied Art
B.F.A. (Applied Art) is an undergraduate professional programme that applies drawing, design and creativity to visual communication and commercial purposes, including illustration, graphic and advertising design, typography, photography, branding, packaging and digital design.
JMI offers B.F.A. (Applied Art) and B.F.A. (Applied Art) Self-Financed through the Department of Applied Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, under programme code B09. For 2026–27 the entrance was scheduled in a three-hour test window, reflecting its practical and creative nature, so aspirants should not prepare only fine arts GK and MCQs.
Students planning for 2027–28 should prepare on the latest available pattern and check the new JMI notification when it is released.
Who can apply
Under the JMI 2026–27 requirements: Senior Secondary School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with at least 50% marks in the aggregate of the best five papers. Eligibility may be revised, so verify the 2027–28 prospectus.

AMU and CUET (UG)
AMU Bachelor of Visual Arts
AMU's Department of Fine Arts offers a Bachelor of Visual Arts (B.V.A.) with a Painting specialisation, an eight-semester programme, rather than a B.F.A. Applied Art. Eligibility is Class XII with Fine Arts or Painting as a subject. Admission is through a departmental selection process, so prepare drawing, painting, composition and art theory, and follow the pattern AMU notifies.
CUET (UG) Fine Arts
CUET (UG) has a domain subject Fine Arts / Visual Arts / Commercial Arts (code 312) covering Indian painting, miniature and modern Indian art, sculpture, graphic arts, movements and artists. It is a theory domain exam and a separate route, so it is not complete preparation for JMI B09, which needs practical drawing and design skills.

- Month 5: poster design, typography, illustration, creative composition and timed drawing
- Month 6: practical tests, theory revision, CUET MCQs where needed and full mock tests
- Keep a sketchbook and draw every day
- Work within time limits and avoid over-decorating or copying without understanding
