About B.A. (Hons) Persian
Jamia Millia Islamia offers B.A. (Hons) Persian through its Department of Persian. The programme connects students with classical Persian literature, Indo-Persian culture and the large body of historical, administrative and literary material produced in Persian in India.
The JMI entrance test is not a Persian grammar test. It checks general knowledge of the Persian-speaking world and awareness of historical and literary personalities, and 60% of the paper is descriptive. Answers may be written in Urdu, English or Hindi.

Who can apply
Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent with not less than 45% marks in aggregate, or 50% marks in the subject concerned, subject to the full university conditions (JMI 2026–27 admission structure). Verify in the 2027–28 prospectus.

AMU and CUET (UG)
AMU B.A. Persian
AMU's long-established Department of Persian lists an undergraduate B.A. programme and reports 15 seats. The JMI B34 syllabus does not apply to AMU; follow AMU's admission guide, which may involve English, general awareness, aptitude and Aligarh Movement components.
CUET (UG)
Persian may be offered as a CUET language or test subject in a given cycle, but each university decides whether it accepts CUET for B.A. Persian, which papers it requires, and how merit is calculated.

What is the JMI Persian entrance pattern?
Section A has 40 objective questions on the Persian-speaking world for 40 marks. Section B has six short descriptive questions for 60 marks on historical personalities, Urdu and Persian writers, and the importance of Persian.
Can the descriptive answers be written in English?
Yes. Under the prescribed syllabus, Section B answers may be written in Urdu, English or Hindi.
Is JMI B.A. Persian admission through CUET?
No. Under the latest JMI schedule, B34 had its own JMI entrance test. Check the 2027–28 prospectus for any change.
How many seats does JMI B.A. Persian have?
JMI's 2026–27 prospectus lists 60 seats for the 8-semester programme.
Can I prepare for JMI and AMU Persian together?
A common foundation in Persian literature, culture, history and language awareness helps for both, but each university's admission pattern must be prepared separately.
