About B.A. (Hons) English
B.A. (Hons) English covers British literature, Indian writing in English, world literature, poetry, drama, fiction, literary criticism and theory, language, culture and academic writing. Students learn to read, interpret and critically analyse literary and cultural texts.
JMI offers the programme through its Department of English as an 8-semester degree. The JMI paper rewards literary knowledge, reading ability and writing ability, so grammar practice alone is not enough: literature carries 40 marks and the essay 30.

AMU and CUET (UG)
AMU B.A. English
AMU offers B.A. English as an 8-semester programme. Its admission test has English (25), Indo-Islamic Culture and Aligarh Movement (25) and General Aptitude (50). The Aligarh Movement section covers Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the MAO College and AMU's history, so generic English preparation is not enough.
CUET (UG) English
Universities using CUET may require the English Language paper, domain subjects or the General Aptitude Test. CUET English tests reading comprehension, vocabulary and verbal ability, and does not cover the literature and essay sections JMI requires.

What is the JMI B.A. (Hons) English programme code?
The current JMI programme code is B02.
What is the JMI B.A. English entrance syllabus?
It has 40 marks of objective questions on authors, books and the current literary scene, 20 marks for an unseen passage, 10 marks for grammar and vocabulary, and 30 marks for an essay.
Is JMI B.A. English admission through CUET?
No. Under JMI's 2026–27 admission structure, B02 had its own JMI entrance test. Check the 2027–28 prospectus for any change.
Is CUET English preparation enough for JMI B.A. English?
No. CUET English builds language skills, but JMI also needs dedicated preparation in literature, authors, books and essay writing.
What is the AMU B.A. English entrance pattern?
Under the latest available AMU pattern: English 25 marks, Indo-Islamic Culture and Aligarh Movement 25 marks, and General Aptitude 50 marks.
Can I prepare for JMI, AMU and CUET together?
